Sameep just attended an Indian wedding, so I asked him for a description, because I’ve never attended one
basically, in an indian wedding, the bride’s family invites the groom to marry the bride. the groom comes on a horse with a big following of people (friends and family) dancing and celebrating. there are fireworks and a band playing very loudly so that everybody in the town/vicinity can hear the noise. the families then meet in a nice place like a hotel for the wedding to occur.
as for the wedding, theres this long elaborate religious ceremony in which you “tie the knot”. there are these 7 virtues/pillars that you are supposed to guide your marriage around and they are these moral statements like prioritize your family over yourself or make sure that you always take your wife with you when possible so that you are together. after the wedding, the bride is taken with the groom’s family and the groom’s family plays little jokes on the bride and groom and such. theres a long photo reception during the wedding so people can take pictures.
Sameep also mentioned that the bride’s family provides the food. I’m not sure if this means that the bride’s family is totally in charge of footing the bill, but I’m sure Sameep will revise this blog to tell us
